Those who know me know that while I have gifts, making good coffee isn’t one of them. You may also know that I LOVE good coffee. Nevertheless: while less-than-outstanding coffee is sad, but less-than-outstanding democracy is disastrous. Few things are more essential to functional democracy than open conversations between citizens – especially those of opposing political views – and journalism that provides a nonjudgemental forum for those conversations to take place. This week’s support of excellent journalism goes out to Mother Jones. MJ reporter James West decided to friend the Drumpf supporters that he interviewed this year on Facebook, and to ask them if they would like to talk – just talk – about what they expect will happen next. What their hopes and dreams are, and to keep in touch with them about how that’s going. Mr. West – thank you for the conversation, sir.
In support of outstanding journalism this week, I skipped buying coffee and gave a tax-deductible donation to Mother Jones. What would you like to see our world look like?
